Appearance of Sita Devi
On 25th April 2026, we observe Sita Navami marks the divine appearance of Sita Devi, who manifested from the womb of the earth while King Janaka was ploughing the yajna-sthali. Her appearance is transcendental, just like that of Lord Rama, and she is eternally united with Him as His consort. Lord Rama and Sita Devi appeared to establish the principles of an ideal life, demonstrating through their conduct how one should remain steady in dharma in all circumstances.
Wisdom and Strength in Calamity
One of the most striking qualities of Sita Devi is her wisdom and clarity during times of calamity. This is especially seen during her stay in Lanka, where she faced great adversity. Despite being surrounded by fear and uncertainty, she never lost her understanding of right and wrong. In her interactions with Ravana, she remained firm and unwavering, clearly rejecting his advances without hesitation. By nature, Sita Devi is gentle, soft-spoken, and humble, yet when faced with wrongdoing, she displayed remarkable strength. Her firmness before Ravana shows that true strength does not lie in harshness, but in the ability to remain steady and uncompromising in one’s values.
Steadiness in Dharma
Her strength is further revealed in her interaction with Hanuman. When Hanuman offered to carry her back to Lord Rama, she refused. Her decision was not out of helplessness, but out of deep conviction. She had resolved never to touch any man other than Lord Rama, and she did not wish to return in a way that would diminish His glory. She desired that Lord Rama personally come and rescue her, thereby upholding His honour and establishing righteousness.
Sita Devi as Our Ideal
Sita Navami is an opportunity to learn from the pure character of Sita Devi. Her example teaches us to remain steady in devotion, even in the calamities, and to act in a way that pleases the Lord. By following her principles of purity, faith, and unwavering commitment, one can gradually deepen their devotional life.
Maharaja Dasharatha once told Sita Devi that her remarkable behaviour would make her the most glorious woman in history. Today, we see this truth manifest. On this auspicious ocassion, we pray for the strength to follow her example, to remain steady, principled, and devoted, even in the face of adversity.
We humbly invite you to make a contribution on this auspicious day of Sita Navami.
